As part of a ceasefire deal, Hamas has returned the bodies of 4 Israeli hostages early Thursday morning. Among the bodies, it is presumed to be three members of the Bibas family, which include mother Shiri and her two children Kfir and Ariel along with Oded Lifshitz, an 84-year old man. All the bodies will undergo forensic testing to confirm identities.
The Lifshitz family did identify Oded’s remains.
Kfir and Ariel Bibas were the two youngest captives seized in the October 7, 2023 attack; Kfir was only 9 months old and Ariel was only 4-years-old when they were taken captive.
Hamas is claiming all four hostages were killed, along with their guards during an Israeli airstrike. Before being taken to Israeli forces, the coffins were loaded into Red Cross vehicles.
Hamas is expected to release six more living hostages on Saturday followed by four more bodies sometime next week.
