Two people were left dead and at least 6 more were injured after a teenager opened fire in downtown Orlando, FL where large crowds were celebrating Halloween. The victims’ ages range from 19-39.
Eric Smith, Orlando Police Chief said shots were fired just after 1 a.m. in two nearby locations within minutes of each other. Smith said that Halloween is one of the city’s busiest nights of the year with crowds ranging from 50,000-100,000 people.
A 17-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the shooting, although no motive has been established. Video surveillance showed the suspect walking into the crowd, raising his right hand and opening fire. As seen on police video, an officer immediately knocked the suspect down at the second location and was assisted by three additional officers. The suspect had been arrested prior for grand theft in 2023 and that case is still under investigation.
