Global Tech Outage

A global technology outage is causing more than 2,000 flights to be cancelled and over 5,300 delays, knocking banks and ATM’s off line, affecting some 911 systems, businesses, stores, credit card companies, and hospitals cancelling some elective surgeries, to name a few.

The widespread outage seems to have stemmed from a faulty update from the cyber security firm, CrowdStrike, on computers running Microsoft Windows operating systems. CrowdStrike doesn’t believe this incident has anything to do with a security breech or cyber attack.

George Kurtz, CrowdStrike’s CEO said on X, “Today was not a security or cyber incident. Our customers remain fully protected. We understand the gravity of the situation and are deeply sorry for the inconvenience and disruption. We are working with all impacted customers to ensure that systems are back up and they can deliver the services their customers are counting on…”

Although Microsoft said the issue has been fixed, the problem is taking time to get all affected entities fully restored, and up and running to full capacity.
