After iconic actor Gene Hackman, 95, his wife Betsy Arakawa, 65, and one of his dogs were found dead this week in their home in New Mexico, authorities are now labeling it as “suspicious,” according to the search warrant.
The bodies were found in separate rooms of their home and one of their German shepherds dog was found in a kennel about 15’ from Arakawa. Hackman’s body was found in a mudroom near his cane, giving the impression that he had fallen. Arakawa’s body was found in a bathroom with pills scattered around and a space heater nearby. A deputy noticed Arakawa appeared to have “body decomposition, bloating in her face” and mummification of her hands and feet.
A maintenance worker stated in the 911 call that the doors were locked, but he could see inside a window that Arakawa’s body was on the floor, but officers said in a press conference that the front door was unlocked and ajar when they arrived on the scene. Two additional healthy dogs were found; one running loose on the property and the other near Arakawa’s body.
There didn’t appear to be any signs of forced entry into the home or gas or carbon monoxide leaks, but everything is pending on the full investigation and toxicology and autopsy reports.
