NBC’s hit sitcom Friends celebrates 20 years since the series finale aired. The finale was one of the top 5 series finales watched by Americans. Show creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane wrote the series finale and said it was difficult keeping the script of the episode a secret until it aired.
First airing on September 22, 1994, Friends ran for 10 seasons having multiple guest stars appear in episodes. The finale was the 236th episode, watched by 52.5 million Americans, and was titled the Last One where Matthew Perry spoke the last words of the series. When asked about it, Kauffman said, “It’s incredibly poignant. It’s a legacy for him, one of his many legacies.”
