Franco Arrested in the Dominican Republic

After being interviewed by prosecutors, Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was arrested on Monday in the Dominican Republic for his alleged relationship with a minor.

He appeared in front of prosecutors with two lawyers for almost three hours.

The 22 year old Franco must be brought before a judge within 24 hours, according to Dominican Law. His U.S. attorney, Jay Reisinger,  declined to comment and the AP could not reach Franco's lawyers in the Dominican Republic.

Under its joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy with the players' association,  Major League Baseball placed Franco on administrative leave. He will continue to be paid and receive his service time while on administrative leave.
