Former Uvalde Officers Facing Criminal Charges

Former Uvalde, Texas police officers have been indicted by a grand jury for their deficient response to the 2022 mass shooting at Robb Elementary School, which left two teachers and 19 students dead.


Former School District Police Chief, Pete Arredondo and former school police officer, Adrian Gonzales were named in the indictment and are facing felony charges.


The grand jury is charging Arredondo with 10 felony charges of child endangerment for failing to recognize the incident as an active shooting and for failing to take proper action to intervene. The indictment said those behaviors put every child in “imminent danger of bodily injury, death, physical impairment.

 

Gonzales is also facing counts of felony child endangerment and abandonment.


Hundreds of officers responded to the school, but it took almost 80 minutes before the officers confronted the 18-year-old shooter.


These are the first-time criminal charges have been filed in connection to the school massacre.
