The month of May’s full moon will arrive and reach its peak illumination on Thursday, May 23, 9:53 a.m. E.T. The full moon this month is called the Flower Moon because, according to the “Old Farmer’s Almanac which started naming full moons in the 1930’s, flowers spring forth and begin to bloom after the winter across North America.
The moon will appear to be full for a few days beginning Tuesday night through Friday evening. Wednesday night the flower moon will begin to rise after sunset and reach its highest point after midnight, therefore Wednesday and Thursday nights are the best times to view the moon.
