Florida High School Student-Athletes to Get Compensated

The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) has voted unanimously to approve student-athletes to be compensated for the name, image, and likeness, (NIL) beginning in the 2024-2025 school year.

High School athletes will be able to sign endorsement deals and still be allowed to play high school sports. The athletes will also be allowed to hire agents to assist them with any business deals, but only parents or guardians can negotiate an NIL deal. Some activities could include, but aren’t limited to, commercial endorsements, promotional activities, product or service advertisements and social media presence.

Some restrictions include the use of school logos and/or school uniforms, unless given written permission from the school, district or FHSAA. Student-athletes may not endorse product including, vaping, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, weapons, prescription drugs or cannabis products. Political or social activism is also prohibited.
