Filmmaker - Star of Super Size Me Dies at 53

Morgan Spurlock, the filmmaker and star of the 2004 documentary “Super Size Me,” has died of cancer complications Thursday. He was 53 years old.


Spurlock’s “Super Size Me was nominated for an Oscar in the category, Best Documentary Feature. In the documentary, Spurlock challenged himself to only eat McDonald’s meals for an entire month, while he also examined the fast food industry.


Spurlock also made other documentaries including “Where in the World is Osama bin Laden” in 2008, “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold” in 2011, and the sequel “Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!”


Spurlock’s brother Craig said in a statement, “It was a sad day, as we said goodbye to my brother Morgan. Morgan gave so much through his art, ideas and generosity. The world has lost a true creative genius and a special man. I am so proud to have worked together with him.”


Spurlock is survived by his sons Laken and Kallen, his parents Phyllis and Ben, his brothers Craig and Barry, several nieces and nephews, and his ex-wives Alexandra Jamieson and Sara Bernstein, the mothers of his sons.
