The Florida High School Athletic Association’s (FHSAA) board of directors said they are in the early stages of discussion as to whether or not to add Esports to their schools official sports list.
Esports is already part of the collegiate and professional sports level and is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Esports is creating unexpected, new career paths for gamers.
Students are already earning college scholarships in esports. According to the National Education Association in 2020, there was over $16 million in scholarships awarded to esports players.
The FHSAA will survey high schools in the state and do a study on what the impact of having excessive screen time would have on students who’d participate in the sport.
