Fast Food Workers to get $20 per hour in California

Governor Gavin Newsom passed a law that will increase minimum wage for fast food industry workers that bears the name of a national chain to receive $20 per hour. This is a $4 increase from the $16 per hour. The new wages will be in effect beginning Monday, April 1.

Many establishments will either be letting go of several workers, as they can’t afford to pay the new wages or they will need to raise their prices in order to pay employees. According to the Wall Street Journal, most of the establishments making cuts are mainly pizzerias.

Many are calling it a “silent tax” because between the lay offs, which will bring up unemployment, and the increased amounts that will be charged for food, the increase will fall on the public.
