Eye Drop Recall

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a nationwide voluntary recall of Systane brand eye drops due to the possibility of fungal contamination and could potentially cause eye infections.


The FDA said a customer reported a complaint to Alcon of “foreign material observed inside a sealed single use vial.” Systane Lubricant Eye Drops Ultra PF Preservative-Free Dry Eye Relief (Single Vials – On-the-Go) with lot number 10101, NDC 0065-1432-06/UPC 300651432060 and an expiration date of September 2025. The drops are sold in a 25 pack of single vials and come in a green and pink cardboard carton.


“Fungal contamination of an ophthalmic product is known to potentially cause eye infections. If an infection occurs, it may be vision threatening, and in very rare cases potentially life-threatening in immunocompromised patients. To date, Alcon Laboratories has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall,” said the FDA.
