San Diego Padres right-handed reliever Jeremiah Estrada has set the Major League Baseball (MLB) record for consecutive strikeouts in the expansion era, with 13, on Tuesday night against the Miami Marlins.
He struck out Marlins third baseman Jake Burger in the ninth for his 12th consecutive strikeout, passing Philadelphia Phillies left-hander José Alvarado, who had 11 consecutive strikeouts in April of 2023.
Estrada later punched out Nick Gordon for his 13th consecutive strikeout to end the game.
