Costco’s and Trader Joe’s, to name a few, are limiting the amount of eggs customers can purchase in response to the increasing numbers of the “Bird Flu” (H5N1) outbreak. Costco is limiting customers to three packages of eggs and also may cut eggs from online orders.
Trader Joe’s is also limiting customer egg purchases. About 600 nationwide stores will be impacted by this change. A spokesperson said, “Due to ongoing issues with the supply of eggs, we are currently limiting egg purchases to one dozen per customer, per day, in all Trader Joe’s stores across the country.” The grocery chain added they are hoping that the “limits will help to ensure that as many of our customers who need eggs are able to purchase them when they visit Trader Joe’s.”
The U.S. Department of Agriculture expects the cost of eggs to continue to increase up to 20% by the end of the year.
