Deadly Flooding Across the Midwest

Flood warnings are still in effect across the Midwest and are expected to continue through this week.

At least two people have died in Iowa and South Dakota as a result of the storms.

Yesterday, flooding in Iowa led to road closures and forced residents to evacuate their homes and seek higher ground. A railroad bridge connecting Iowa to South Dakota was destroyed when water levels reached 45 feet. Rivers and streams overflowed due to the torrential rain.

President Biden approved a major disaster declaration for several counties in Iowa allowing residents and businesses to apply for aid from FEMA.

Flooding also caused a partial failure of a dam in Minnesota.

The National Weather Service is predicting more than 2-dozen points of major flooding in Northern Iowa, Southern Minnesota and Eastern South Dakota.

Rivers and streams across the Midwest continue to have flood warnings including: Big Sioux River, Cedar River, Des Moines River, Little Sioux River, Missouri River and Rock River.

Flood warnings will remain in effect until further notice.
