Country Music Legend Toby Keith Dies at 62

After years of battling stomach cancer, country music legend Toby Keith died last night at 62.

Keith had gone through several rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.

Keith’s website states, “Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family. He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”

Keith either wrote or co-wrote most of his songs, sold more than 40 million albums worldwide, had 20 number one hits, was named Male Vocalist of the Year in 2001, earned 3 Billboard Music Awards; one for Country Artist of the year in 2002, then two more in 2005 where he won Country Artist of the Year again, along with Country Album Artist of the Year. Keith was also named Artist of the Decade at the American Country Awards in 2011, and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2015.

Throughout his life, Keith worked in oil fields, was a rodeo hand, played pro football and started a band when he was 20-years-old. His debut record came out in 1993 and ended up going platinum.

Keith has given back to charity where he raised millions of dollars for Starlight Children’s Foundation, The Salvation Army, Toby Keith Foundation, and the United Way and built a cost-free home for children cancer patients.

His wife Tricia of 40 years, and three children survive him.
