Three deans from Columbia University have resigned after exchanging text messages
denouncing Jews as “privileged.”
University president Minouche Shafik said the texts “reveled behavior and sentiments that
were not only unprofessional, but also, disturbingly touched on ancient anti-Semitic
tropes.”
A school spokesperson confirmed that Cristen Kromm, former dean of undergraduate
student life; Matthew Patashnick, former associate dean for student and family support;
and Susan Chang-Kim, former vice dean and chief administrative officer have resigned.
Josef Sorett, dean of Columbia College, was also a participant in the text group, but publicly
apologized, and has not been removed from his position.
