Actor Carl Weathers has died at age 76. Best know for his role as Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise, Weathers also had roles in The Predator, Action Jackson, Happy Gilmore and most recently, The Mandalorian.
A statement from his family said, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024… Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”
Weathers just turned 76 on January 14th and was born in New Orleans. Weathers played football for San Diego State University and in 1970, played one season for the Oakland Raiders. After the Raiders, he went on to play two years in the Canadian Football league, while in the off-season, earning a bachelor’s degree in drama in 1974, graduating from San Francisco State University.
He had a 50-year career on the screen appearing in more than 75 films and television shows.
His two sons survive Weathers.
