Carl Dean, Dolly Parton’s husband of nearly 60 years died on Monday at age 82.
The couple married on May 30, 1966 after meeting outside a “Wishy Washy Laundromat,” two years prior when Parton moved to Nashville when she was only 18-years-old.
Dean, a businessman, avoided the spotlight and the couple kept their relationship strictly private and Parton once said in an interview, “A lot of people say there’s no Carl Dean, that he’s just somebody I made up to keep other people off me.”
Dean is also the inspiration around Parton’s classic hit, “Jolene.”
Parton said in a statement, “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.”
No cause of death was announced and the family is asking for privacy and respect at this time.
