Bud Light Still Slipping

Once the top-selling beer in America, Bud Light has slipped again after the boycott throughout the past year. Bud Light now finds itself in third place, being past by Michelob Ultra recently.


Also brewed by Anheuser-Busch (A-B), Michelob Ultra has now become the second best selling beers in grocery and convenience stores during the stretch from Memorial Day and the 4th of July holidays.


Modelo, with 9.7% of beer sales, maintains its number one spot. Michelob Ultra had 7.3% and Bud Light dropped down to 6.5%. 


The rise in Michelob Ultra can be credited to being the beer sponsor of the Copa America Soccer Tournament as well as now being deemed as the official sponsor for Team USA for the Olympics. Team USA’s logo appears with the American flag on special edition packaging. 


Bud Light became the official beer of the UFC, along with sponsoring music festivals with country singers, and will focus on the upcoming NFL season with a large advertising presence.


An A-B spokesperson said Bud Light “will always be a mainstay of our iconic portfolio” and that “millions of consumers choose Bud Light every day.”
