Brewers Lose Yelich for Rest of the Season

The Milwaukee Brewers announced that outfielder Christian Yelich will have season-ending back surgery on Friday.

Yelich missed three weeks in April and May with a lower back strain and has been out since July 23rd dealing with his back pain.  They had hoped rest would ease the pain and let him get through the season and have surgery in the offseason.

In a statement Yelich said...

"After careful consideration and consultation with medical personnel, I have decided to undergo season-ending back surgery...  I ultimately felt it was in the best interest of myself and the Brewers to have surgery with the expectation of being back at 100% for next season. We have a very special team here, and it will be disappointing not to be able to contribute on the field down the stretch. However, I have the utmost confidence in my teammates and will be cheering them on with all of you, the great fans of Milwaukee."

Yelich was hitting .315 with 11 HR's, 42 RBI's, 44 runs scored and 21 stolen bases over 73 games this season.
