Nearly 28 years since the unsolved murder of 6-year-old pageant princess, JonBenét Ramsey, Colorado authorities are hopeful they are close to finding a resolution.
An investigator in the case said, “I’m not sure what it will take to bust it wide open…but it feels like it’s within reach. We’re hoping for 2025; this is our year.”
On December 26, 1996, JonBenét was found dead in her family’s basement. The autopsy determined she was sexually assaulted, strangled and her skull was fractured. There was also unknown DNA found in her underwear and under her fingernails.
JonBenét’s brother Burke and parents John and Patsy were cleared as suspects in 2008.
It was believed the investigation was botched 28 years ago, but there is hope that advances in DNA technology can play a factor and aide police in solving this murder with the remaining evidence.
New Boulder Police Chief, Steven Redfearn took over early this year said he wanted this case “solved on and off the books.” Redfearn said, “We f-ked the case up from the start, and now with new blood, we can finally fix it.” Redfearn is also assigning new officers and resources to the case.
“The killing of JonBenét was an unspeakable crime and this tragedy has never left our hearts…We are committed to following up on every lead and we are continuing to work with DNA experts and our law enforcement partners around the country until this tragic case is solved. This investigation will always be a priority for the Boulder Police Department,” Redfearn stated.
