Boy Scouts of America Changing Its Name

For the first time in 114 years, the Boy Scouts of America will be changing its name to Scouting America on the organization’s 115th birthday, February 8, 2025. The organization is making an effort to become more inclusive.

Girls and gay youth are now welcome into the program and are allowed to work toward the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. Gay youth was welcomed in 2013, and in 2018, girls were accepted into the Cub Scouts.

Chief executive officer and president, Roger Krone said, “In the next 100 years we want any youth in America to feel very, very welcome to come into our programs.”

Krone added, “It sends this really strong message to everyone in America that they can come to this program, they can bring their authentic self, they can be who they are, and they will be welcomed here.”
