Bill Walton Passes Away at 71

Two-time NBA Champion and Hall of Famer Bill Walton died at the age of 71 after a prolonged battle with cancer on Monday.  


Born William Theodore Walton III, on November 5th,1952 in La Mesa, California.


He went to UCLA from 1970-1974. The team won two National Championships (1972,1973), had two 30-0 seasons and was a combined 86-4 record during his time there. 


Walton was the number 1 pick in the 1974 NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazers. 

He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993.


"Bill Walton was truly one of a kind. As a Hall of Fame player, he redefined the center position. His unique all-around skills made him a dominant force at UCLA and led to an NBA regular season and Finals MVP, two NBA championships, and a spot on the NBA's 50th and 75th Anniversary Teams," NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. 


"Bill then translated his infectious enthusiasm and love for the game to broadcasting, where he delivered insightful and colorful commentary which entertained generating of basketball fans."
