Apple To Pay $95 Million in Siri Lawsuit

Last week Apple agreed to pay $95 million in a class action lawsuit claiming their voice activated Siri violated users’ privacy.

Apple customers claimed their private conversations were recorded after unintentionally activating the voice assistant Siri, and such conversations were sole to third party advertisers.

One plaintiff claimed he received ads for a surgical treatment after discussing it with his doctor. Two other plaintiffs claimed they receive ads for Air Jordan sneakers and Olive Garden restaurants after mentioning them.

Tens of millions in the suit could receive up to $20 per Siri-enabled device including the iPhone or the Apple Watch.

Apple denied any wrongdoings and claims did they sell any data collected by Siri. A statement from Apple said, “Apple has never used Siri data to build marketing profiles, never made it available for advertising, and never sold it to anyone for any purpose… Apple does not retain audio recording of Siri interactions unless users explicitly opt in to help improve Siri, and even then, the recordings are used solely for that purpose.”

Apple also added they are going to continue to develop technologies to make Siri even more private.
