49ers' Pearsall Shot In Chest During Attempted Robbery

San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during a botched robbery on Saturday afternoon in San Francisco.

Mayor London Breed announced on X/Twitter...

"This afternoon, there was an attempted robbery in Union Square involving San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and he was shot. SFPD was on the scene immediately and an arrest of the shooter was made. My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time."

Aaron Peskin, the City Supervisor, told the local NBC affiliate that Pearsall survived the shot, was hospitalized and in stable condition.

Local news coverage reported that Pearsall was being robbed for his Rolex watch when he grabbed the robber's gun during a struggle.  Pearsall was walking alone bringing shopping bags to his car when the 17 year old attempted to rob him at gunpoint.

Pearsall was the 49ers No. 1 pick (31st overall) and was set to make his NFL regular season debut against the New York Jets on September 9th.

The 49ers released a statement that Pearsall was released on Sunday from San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

Pearsall's mother, Erin Pearsall, posted on Facebook...

"First and foremost I want to  thank god for protecting my baby boy. He is extremely lucky, God shielded him. He was shot in the chest and it exited out his back. Thanks be to God it missed vital organs."
