2024 Boston Marathon

Today marked the 128th edition of the annual Boston Marathon. More than 30,000 runners went from Hopkinton to Boston where they would cross the finish line 26.2 miles away on Boylston Street. Former New England Patriots tight end, Rob Gronkowski was the grand marshal of the event.


The winner for the men’s race is Sisay Lema of Ethiopia, finishing in 2:06:17. Taking second was Mohamed Esa also from Ethiopia finishing in 2:06:58, and third place was defending champ, Evans Chebet from Kenya finishing in 2:07:22 The women’s winner is Hellen Obiri finishing in 2:22:37. This is Obiri’s second straight win in the marathon. Second place was Sharon Lokedi finishing in 2:22:45, and third place was Edna Kiplagat finishing in 2:23:21. All women are from Kenya.


The winner for the men’s wheelchair race is Marcel Hug of Switzerland, despite crashing into a wall on a turn, with a record-breaking time of 1:15:33. This is Hug’s second straight win, with seven marathon wins overall, and he held the previous record at 1:17:06. Daniel Romanchuk finished in second with a time of 1:20:37 and David Weir finished third with 1:22:12. Both men are from Maryland.


Newcomer, Eden Rainbow-Cooper from Great Britain, won the women’s wheelchair race with a time of 1:35:11, followed by Manuela Schar from Switzerland with a time of 1:36:41 and Madison DeRozario from Australia with a time of 1:39:20.
